MUSEUMS IN AEGINA

Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum of Aegina has ancient remains and relics. It was founded in 1828 by Ioannis Kapodistrias.

In the museum, there are different vessels, pottery, ceramics, alabasters, statuettes, inscriptions, coins, weapons and copper vessels.

In the lobby of the museum, there is a representation of the first greek residence, called "the white house".

It had 2 floors and a loundry that was made of copper and embossed tombs from the cemetary of Rineias. The museum consists of 3 rooms in which are all the exhibits.



The Historic Museum of Aegina


The Historic Museum of Aegina is in Spirou Rodi street. On the groundfloor, there is a place for exhibitions which is also used as the spiritual Center. On the first floor there are many historic and folklore exhibits. Theatrical plays are often performed in the garden of the museum.



Chris Kapralo's Museum


Apart from the historic Museum in Aegina there is also the Chris Kapralo's Museum which is in the northwest part of the island about 3 kilometers from the town. In the museum there are many exhibits like paintings, sculptures, ceramics and works of forged lead and copper.

THE ANTIQUITIES OF THE AEGINA

You can visit the archaeological site of Colona, which was the Acropolis of Aegina in the ancient times. The Temple of Apollo, located at the top of Colona Hill. The Temple of Aphaia, a Doric temple built from local limestone. The Temple of Elanios Zeus, located at the top of Mount Elanio.

THE MONASTERIES OF AEGINA

You can visit the women's Monastery of Saint Nektarios, the women's Monastery of Saint Aikaterini, which is next to the Monastery of Saint Nektarios, the women's Monastery of Panagia Chrysoleonitsa, the Church of Saints Theodoroi, the Church of Faneromeni and about 35 Churches in Paleochora.

In the city of Aegina you can visit the Tower of Markellos, which housed the first Greek anti-governmental committee from 1826-1828, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Aegina, the Eunardios School of Teaching, the Government House, the Municipal Library of Aegina and the Orphanage of Aegina

You can swim in the two beaches of Aegina, at Souvala beach, at Vagia beach, at Agia Marina beach, at Portes Beach, at Marathonas Beach, at Aeginatissa beach, at Perdika beach and also at the beautiful waters of the island of Moni, which has only deers, small horses, wild boar, peacocks, pheasants and squirrels.
